According to MILPER MSG 11-306, Soldiers will see an adjustment in promotion point distribution for military education on their Promotion Point Worksheet (PPW) on 5 December 2011. The change will become effective for Soldiers being promoted on 1 January 2012 and later.
Military education will be divided into three categories namely Professional Military Education (NCOES), Resident Military Training, and Computer Based Training. In addition, each of these categories will now include a maximum point value. In order to max out the points for military education, a Soldier will have to max out each of the three categories.
Category 1- Professional Military Education.
Includes appropriate NCOES and related academic and/or leadership achievements. The maximum points points in this section will be 104 for promotion to SGT and 112 for promotion to SSG. Points will be equivalent to the level of academic or leadership achievement upon graduation of appropriate NCOES, but point values readjusted as follows:
a. When competing for selection to SGT: WLC graduates will continue to receive 80 promotion points unless recognized as a member of the Commandant’s List, they will then receive 92 points. In order to receive the maximum points of 104 in this category the Soldier must have achieved Distinguished Honor Graduate status or be identified as the Distinguished Leadership Graduate.
b. When competing for selection to SSG: WLC graduates will continue to receive no promotions points. ALC graduates will now receive 90 promotion points. If recognized as having achieved Commandant’s List, they will now receive 101 points. In order to receive the maximum points of 112 in this category the Soldier must have achieved Distinguish Honor Graduate status or be identified as the Distinguished Leadership graduate.
Category 2- Resident Military Training
Includes all Resident Military Training Courses Listed In ATRRS; DA Form 87 limited to Soldier Training Courses in AR 350-1; and all tab-producing courses. Maximum points in this section is 78 points for promotion to SGT and 84 points for promotion to SSG.
Category 3- Computer Based Training
All non-resident military training including Army Correspondence Course Program (ACCP), Distance Learning (DI) and Army E-learning. The maximum points in this category is adjusted to 78 points for promotion to SGT and 84 points for promotion to SSG.

The same reason everyone was dodging NCOES to begin with. Without WLC points the Army is forcing you to attend ALC to get promoted because you will need those crucial 80 or 90 points. The problem was never ALC in itself but the very painful reminder of how terrible WLC was for most people that attended the course. This is why so many people avoided ALC and exceeded everywhere else to get promoted at all costs.

Hi,
I have a lot of courses on my ERB to the point that some of the old one started disappearing. Am I going to lose those points since my PPW pulls information from my ERB. If that is the case then it is impossible to max in Resident Military Training. Or do those courses that are no longer on my ERB stay in some system and PPW pulls the information from there. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

I have a “Forklift Operator’s Course” Certificate of Training but my S-1 is saying I cant get it put on my Military Education block in my ERB because it is only 4 hours. But the course is in AR 350-1. What do I have to do to get it added?

One of our great SME’s provided the following response: For some reason I can not access that link, Please inform that Soldier that in accordance with AR 600-8-19, he can only get 4 points per 40 hours. If he has more then on Certificate of Training and when combined they equal 40hrs or more then he can recieve points. His S1 should still update his ERB, the school code that is needed for the Forklift Operator’s Course is “XCO”, once his S1 places XCO in eMILPO under military education, that course will populate. Hope this helps!

I understand the new policy about military education points being split between ACCP and residant courses. The SSD courses go under ACCP now but ive been told that this will change as of 1 OCT 2012. First off is this true? Secondly if i have already completed the SSD levels courses will they stay as ACCP hours or will they be moved to residant hours. Any information will be helpfull. I have not seen anything other than SSD becoming the prerequisite for attendance to NCOES courses beginning 1 Oct 12. I haven’t seen anything in regards to changing how points are awarded.

i have a question about a school i attended which according to the new ppw is not worth promotion points although is not an mos producing school and i do not need it to keep my mos. Aviation Life Support Equiptment(ALSE) this is a 234hr resident course. i’m just trying to figure out if it is worth promotion points and i’m not aware of it?

Hi, I agree with most of you. It is important to approve real military training with base and focus on military leader development, however, why do the system will not take two week courses like CBRN with DA 87 which is listed on the 350-1, but does not have the specific code or name.
